What the Research Actually Shows
NAD+ Boosting
Multiple randomised controlled trials demonstrate that oral NMN reliably increases circulating NAD+ and related metabolites. This is the most consistent finding across the human literature and forms the foundation for interest in NMN as a cellular energy support nutrient.
Muscle Insulin Sensitivity
The landmark 2021 trial by Yoshino et al. (published in Science) showed that 250 mg/day NMN for 10 weeks improved muscle insulin sensitivity and insulin signalling in postmenopausal women with prediabetes who were overweight or obese. This remains one of the strongest outcome-focused human studies to date.
Physical Function in Older Adults
Trials in healthy older men and mixed older adult cohorts (Igarashi 2022; Morifuji 2024) reported that 250 mg/day NMN raised NAD+ levels, helped maintain walking speed, and improved aspects of sleep quality. Effects on grip strength and broader muscle function have been modest or mixed.
Performance & Energy
