What it is & why it matters
NMN is a direct precursor to NAD+, a molecule every cell in your body needs to produce energy, repair DNA, and keep cellular systems running smoothly. NAD+ levels naturally decline as we age. Taking NMN helps replenish this important molecule. Human trials show it reliably raises blood NAD+ levels and is generally well tolerated. The strongest research signals so far include improved muscle insulin sensitivity in postmenopausal women with prediabetes, and supportive effects on walking speed and sleep quality in older adults.
Evidence rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Strong for raising NAD+ levels; ⭐⭐⭐ Promising for selected metabolic and functional outcomes in specific populations.
Simple Dosage (based on current human trials)
- 250–600 mg per day is the most common effective range used in positive human trials for raising NAD+ and supporting functional outcomes.
- Some studies used up to 900 mg with additional signals for walking performance.
Take consistently, preferably in the morning. No loading phase is required. Timing is less important than daily consistency.
Why NMN is useful for different people
NMN for Healthy Ageing
NAD+ declines with age. NMN helps support cellular energy production and has shown signals for maintaining walking speed and improving sleep quality in older adults — both important for staying independent and feeling good as the years go by.

NMN for Foundational Health
Because NAD+ sits at the centre of cellular energy production, many people use NMN as a foundational daily support for overall cellular function, especially once they move past their 40s.

NMN for Women’s Health
The strongest metabolic outcome trial for NMN was conducted in postmenopausal women with prediabetes. It showed improved muscle insulin sensitivity — a meaningful finding for women navigating midlife metabolic changes.

NMN for Performance & Energy
NMN supports the cellular energy systems that power both body and brain. Some trials have reported better walking distance at higher doses, although evidence for classic sports performance (strength, power, muscle mass) remains limited and should be viewed with caveats.
